Q: I would like to know how many students graduated from MN college of veterinary medicine between 1947 and 1965…so I can say what percent of women graduated by that date. I was one of three in the class of 65 and I think only 10 women total had graduated by 65. Thanks for your help. Evelyn Townsend
A: We have no better way of giving you these numbers than manually counting the students shown in the graduation photos, all of which are still hanging in the college. Though the first DVM class was inducted in 1947, the first students matriculated in 1951, so these are figures for graduates between 1951 and 1965, inclusive.
According to my count there were a total of 630 graduates from 1951 through 1965. Twelve of them were women, giving a figure of 1.9 percent.
