This June, our Director Mari Kuennen gave a sponsored lecture on the Veterinary Museum (MVHM) to students and scholars at Taiwan’s National Central University. This was part of a larger research trip, where Mari visited several veterinary acupuncturists in Taiwan and South Korea to learn more about the place of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine in vet history. Her resulting publications will be groundbreaking research in the history of science and medicine.
Taiwan is one of many countries with no dedicated institution on Veterinary history. Our museum is one of the few premier institutions worldwide for this history. During the lecture, students learned about how veterinary research at the University of Minnesota continues to make history, and how MVHM connects these innovations to the legacy of veterinary medicine.
This is the first of many international projects Mari is undertaking to expand the international reach and impact of MVHM. While in South Korea, Mari presented at the World Association for the History of Animal Health. This fall, she will head to Germany as she contributes a chapter to a new book about tactile knowledge throughout history.
